Mount Takao - Worn Down Shrine

March 20 2021, Landscapes

Reflection

In 2019, I paid a visit to Mount Takao on the western border of Tokyo prefecture. There are multiple trails up the mountain, with some frequented less than others. At the start of one of the less frequented trails lies a small old shrine, used to pray for good fortune for the proceeding climb. This shrine was worn down with age, having seen many climbers in the decades.

Using a photo I took for reference, I digitally painted this over the course of a couple of days. I attempted to capture the beauty in the serenety of the mountain path. For this piece i focused on capturing the different textures of the objects in the area.I am fairly happy with how this finished, but it would have been better to use less saturation in some areas.
